What is G4C?

G4C (Generation for Change) is the young professional voice of the UK built environment industry, and an integral part of Constructing Excellence, the single organisation charged with driving the change agenda in construction.

As the only truly cross-industry, independent young professional movement, we exist to champion change and drive the transformation of our industry.

We care because one day we’ll be managing the outcomes of today’s decisions, so we want to harness the power of the next generation.  We want an industry that is world-leading because it is collaborative, inclusive, sustainable and innovative; delivering excellence not as an act, but as a habit.

Who is G4C targeted at?

We are an inclusive group with no specific age range or cut off based on level of experience. Our primary objective is to engage with the next generation of change makers in the construction industry and help those in the early stages of their careers.

What are the benefits of joining G4C?

We offer an inclusive and safe environment for building up your contacts in the early stages of your career. The construction industry is sociable, with people skills at the heart of the role. Taking the opportunity to invest the time in building your network in the early stages of your career will pay off later down the line when your contacts climb the ladders of their own organisations and reach influential places.

We provide access to key topical discussions - to provide learning opportunities and CPD on important subjects that impact the next generation of construction professionals.

We provide a links between schools, universities, and industry - to assist with early careers recruitment.

G4C Oxford Club Committee:

Ro Khosla-Stevens - Graduate Mechanical Engineer at Hoare Lea (Club Chair)

In 2020 I graduated from Coventry University with an IMechE accredited BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. I spent a year working in the domestic heat pump and air handling unit industry before joining Hoare Lea in 2021. I am currently studying for an MSc in Building Services Management at Brunel University. I am also working towards chartership with the IMechEWorking primarily within Oxfordshire, and some larger national/international projects, my focus is mainly on the state of the art Science and Research facilities Oxford is known for. Being an Oxford local, it’s great to see the impact we, as the construction industry, are continually having in shaping Oxford.Having attended G4C Oxford Club events previously as a guest, I’m keen to get involved in the organisational side and help move the club forwards.

Joe Dennison - Senior Mechanical Engineer at Ingleton Wood

I started my career almost 16 years ago as a CAD technician for a local building services consultancy. During this 16 years I have worked for several other property and construction consultants developing my position as well as completing a Beng (Hons) part time at London South Banks University. I am currently working for Ingleton Wood who are a multi-disciplinary practice with offices across the UK, myself working out of their office based in Witney. Over my career I have worked across an array of different projects within many various sectors including residential, heritage, educational, defence, leisure, industrial and commercial. I like to believe that I have a broad understanding of both mechanical and public health building services. For the projects I am involved with I am responsible for providing a lead role at all project stages from pre-appointment, through concept and planning, to construction and completion stages with a real emphasis on implementing low energy, sustainable systems wherever feasible. I have recently applied for my MCIBSE and, if successful, have the intention to complete my CEng and become a chartered engineer.

Lauren Bryce - Part II Architectural Assistant at Berrys

I graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2015 with a BA(Hons) in Architecture, and from the University of Greenwich in 2021 with a Master of Architecture. Following the completion of my masters degree, I decided that I wanted to relocate back to Oxford, and have spent the past 2 years working with Berrys, dealing with a variety of clients and projects, namely in the residential and commercial sectors, through RIBA stages 0-7. I am currently working towards my Part 3 qualification to become a fully qualified Architect, with the target completion date of Winter 2024.

Rob Goacher - Architect at Jessop and Cook Architects

I graduated from Oxford Brookes (undergrad) in 2016 before joining Jessop and Cook as a Part I architectural assistant back, before going back to Brookes for my Part 2 masters in 2017 whilst continuing at Jessop and Cook part time, after my masters I rejoined full time and completed my part 3 from RIBA North in late 2021, becoming a fully qualified architect. I work on a wide range of projects from housing (both social and private), community/charity, heritage, university and commercial projects. In addition to working at Jessop and Cook; I am a tech tutor at Oxford Brookes, being inspired by and hopefully inspiring future architects. When not in the office or tutoring I am drawing, in a pub or listening to the Killers, the best band in the world (my opinion) - I am looking forward to seeing them in Belfast at the end of the month.

Jack Strickland - Building Surveyor at AtkinsRéalis

I graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2014 with an RICS accredited BSc (hons) degree in Property Development, and spent a number of years working within the residential lettings industry before starting my career in Building Surveying in 2018 with AtkinsRealis. I am currently on my second stint with the company having taken a 15-month break working client-side for the UK Atomic Energy Authority. I work for a variety of local and national clients across the public and private sectors – specialising in the management of refurbishment and maintenance projects and the undertaking of building condition surveys. I am currently working towards completion of my APC on the Building Surveying pathway with a target date of completion of autumn 2024. I have been actively involved with the G4C Oxford Club since 2018 and have built a strong network of contacts across the country through participation in projects and events.
