Venue
The recently completed Stansfeld Park was commissioned by The Oxford Trust, an independent charitable trust established in 1985 by Oxford entrepreneurs Sir Martin and Audrey, Lady Wood, founders of Oxford Instruments. The Trust’s mission is to encourage and facilitate the study, application and communication of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Trust runs programmes running across three core objectives – the 3E’s:
Enterprise: To support economic growth by encouraging innovation
Education: To inspire young people about science, technology, engineering and maths
Engagement: To encourage people of all ages to engage with how scientific research impacts lives
Stansfeld Park is a purpose-built facility which serves two separate functions under one roof;
Science Oxford Centre
The UK’s first indoor-outdoor science education centre specifically for early years and primary-aged children, their teachers, and families to provide quality, experiential hands-on science. The surrounding 18-acre urban wildspace provides an ideal environment within which young people can explore the natural world and physical play to learn about environmental science and biodiversity, and to bring scientific enquiry and problem-solving out of the classroom and into the great outdoors. This make the science education centre the only facility in the UK with joined up indoor-outdoor STEM provision, designed with primary schools at the heart.
The Wood Centre for Innovation (WCFI)
Named after the Trust’s patrons, Sir Martin and Lady Audrey Wood, WCFI provides much-needed office space for early-stage science and technology companies, capitalising on the proximity to the city’s growing health and data sciences quarter and Oxford Brookes University. The innovation centre will support the new science education centre and its programmes, making the centre self-sustaining. The centre includes a café and theatre which will be available for corporate events, shows, demonstrations and talks.
